At the heart of the farm’s evolution is Victoria. Having grown up surrounded by animals, Victoria has always felt a deep, intuitive connection to them. Her belief in the powerful bond between humans and animals—and the positive impact that connection can have on wellbeing—has shaped both her personal and professional life.

Alongside running the farm, Victoria has spent the past 25 years working in education and pastoral care. These decades of nurturing people, building trust, and offering support have gifted her with a wealth of insight and empathy—qualities that now inform every aspect of the care we offer here at the retreat. For Victoria, care isn’t just a service—it’s a way of life.

Our retreat is a heartfelt extension of this legacy. Built on the same soil that has supported five generations, it has been thoughtfully reimagined into a sanctuary where pets experience comfort, enrichment, and personalised attention—surrounded by open fields, fresh air, and the peaceful rhythms of country life.

Looking to the future, Victoria’s vision for the continued growth of the farm places environmentalism at its heart. We are passionately committed to sustainability, the protection of British wildlife, and the long-term health of our shared environment. Whether through habitat preservation, or responsible land management, we’re proud to be creating a retreat that not only cares deeply for animals, but for the world they live in.

Here, luxury meets legacy—and every guest is treated like family.

Helen’s journey to creating Old Flatts Farm Luxury Pet Retreat has been shaped by a deep love of animals and a lifelong commitment to caring for others. With 25 years of teaching experience in secondary education and finishing her career as a deputy headteacher, Helen has always been dedicated to guiding, nurturing, and supporting growth.

Alongside her teaching career, Helen has spent over 30 years caring for animals. Horses, cats, and dogs have always been her greatest companions, and her passion for their wellbeing is at the heart of everything she does.

In 2019, Helen’s beloved horse Blue fell into poor health. Determined to help him, she began exploring complementary therapies to restore not only his physical strength but his emotional balance too. This journey led her to train as an Applied Zoopharmacognosist, learning how animals instinctively self-select and self-medicate from nature using essential oils and wild herbs.

Helen also trained in Animal Reiki, first to bring comfort and healing to Blue, and later becoming a practitioner so she could offer this gentle, powerful therapy to support other animals and their families as well.

At Old Flatts Farm Luxury Pet Retreat, Helen has brought together her knowledge, skills, and heartfelt compassion to create a place where pets are not only cared for but truly understood. Her vision is to provide a nurturing sanctuary where animals can thrive—physically, emotionally, and naturally.
